Google Releases Android Update, but No Android 14 Yet
Today, Google is releasing new Android updates for supported devices, including Pixels. However, despite the regular release schedule, Android 14 is not part of this update.
New Android 14 betas have typically been released early each month, including in July. However, the updates going out today are still based on Android 13. It is possible that the finalized, non-beta version of Android 14 will arrive later this month as it did last year. Alternatively, users may have to wait until September for the official release.
The latest update, identified as TQ3A.230805.001, is available globally for all supported devices except the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet. The Pixel Fold receives version TQ3C.230805.001.A3, while the Pixel Tablet gets version TQ3A.230805.001.B1. In Japan, the Pixel Fold receives version TQ3A.230805.001.A4. For T-Mobile, Google Fi, Verizon, and their respective MVNOs, different versions of the update are available for different models.
The update brings security patches, bug fixes, and various improvements. Google specifically mentions fixes for several issues. The Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet now have a fix for the issue that caused Bluetooth keyboards to not connect. Additionally, Live Wallpapers will now display correctly in different orientations, and the launcher search input and lock screen responsiveness issues have been resolved for the Pixel Fold. The Pixel Tablet no longer experiences flickering or glitches in Hub mode.
As is typical with Google updates, the rollout may take time to reach all supported devices, starting from the Pixel 4a and later models. While some devices may receive the update in a matter of days, others may have to wait for weeks.
